Born in Paris The Union for the Mediterranean
Paris, 13 July
The Union for the Mediterranean (UPM) was born in
occasion of the Summit of Paris for the Mediterranean. It's
formed by 43 states: the EU 27 plus Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan,
Lebanon, Morocco, Mauritania, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Albania,
Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Monaco and the Palestinian
Authority. The participants have underlined the urgency of
reviving the process of European-Mediterranean partnership and of
conferring it a bigger dimension. The success of this initiative
will also depend, in the final analysis, on the citizens, the civil
society and the active involvement of the private sector.
