The "Carta della Natura" project
The "Carta della Natura" project (CdN) was introduced under the
Framework Law for Protected
Natural Areas, No. 394/91. The aim is to identify the state of
the natural environment in Italy by assessing the natural value and
territorial vulnerability of the country.
APAT was appointed to run the project which was entrusted to the
National Technical Services in 1991. A standard method was drawn up
thanks to the contribution of experts from the academic world.
After implementing the CdN in around one fifth of the national
territory, it was decided to extend the Charter in collaboration
with Local Bodies (ARPA, Regions and Parks). As well as containing
legal references and a brief historical chronology the multimedia
version (consultable in the In-depth Analysis) also contains tables
with the methods used for the 2 main analysis scales and the state
of progress of the cartography (1:50,000 only) for every single
Region.
