ITHACA - ITaly HAzards from CApable faults

Why a database

A reliable and readily available knowledge of fault activity and capability is a key element for a more accurate seismic hazard assessment and appropriate evaluation of vulnerability of critical facilities and urban areas. In many areas of Italy it represents a necessary tool for land-use planning and retrofitting of critical facilities and even monuments, considering the enormous cultural heritage of Italy.

As the knowledge in this field is improving steadily, it is useful to have readily available such information through a frequently updated tool. This is the aim of the

ITHACA information system (ITaly HAzard from CApable faults). This database, managed by APAT and searchable online, after a long period of development, is now providing state-of-the-art cartographic and table data on the Italian capable faults.
