Cartographic representation of the continental Quaternary

Morphological elements

In addition to the accumulation forms described in Quaderno, serie III, n. 2 and subsequent amendments and additions – morainal terminal or side bank, rock glacier, scree, alluvial or debris flow fan – it is also possible to represent fans of mixed origins: resulting from debris-flow and/or torrents and/or avalanches. The morphological elements should always be superimposed on the corresponding deposit. In particular: the rock glacier symbols should be superimposed on the slope deposit or glacial deposits (till). The scree symbol should be superimposed on the slope deposit or talus material. The alluvial fan and debris-flow symbol should be superimposed on the alluvial deposit and fluvioglacial deposit or the debris-flow deposit. The mixed-origin fan should be superimposed on the mixed-origin deposit. In addition: the torrent fan will be treated in the same way as the alluvial fan and represented by the same symbol. The avalanche fan will be represented by the scree symbol superimposed on the cryonival deposit.
