researchers have been questioning about the strange black mantle of
some wolves. At last an international team studied the genetic
causes determining the colour in many breeds of dogs and in some
populations of wolves. The discovery has been made by a group of
American scholars in collaboration with Italian scientists of the
Ispra (Laboratorio di genetica dell’ex-Istituto Nazionale per
la Fauna Selvatica , the laboratory of genetics of the former
National Institute for Wildlife).
