The European Parliament approved, by a large majority, an
amendment to Directive 2005/35/EC on the ship pollution, negotiated
with the European Council.
The amendment requires the Member States to provide, within one
year after the entry into force of the Directive, criminal
sanctions for those who discharges oil or noxious liquid in the
sea, with intent or negligence.
