Technical specifications cards for the application of the regulations on the marine-coastal environment

1) Methodological cards for assessing the Chemical Status and for the analysis and sampling of biological quality elements in the coastal marine environment
ISPRA, both as former APAT and as former ICRAM, has actively collaborated over the years with the Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea for the development of Protocols and analytical Methodologies aimed at the implementation of the surveys, as provided by the marine environment Monitoring Programs funded and held by the Ministry - Directorate of Nature Protection - in collaboration with the coastal Regions, according to Law 979/82.
At the end of 2001 the book “Analytical Methods of Reference” was published.
In 2007-2008 ISPRA realised other technical specifications cards, following attached under request of the Ministry of Environment. They are used in analytical activities attaining the ongoing Monitoring Programme. The cards were prepared by processing the results of monintorig activities previously undertaken, financed by the Ministry. They were prepared and shared among former APAT, former ICRAM, Ministry of Environment and some Regional Agencies. The cards of Posidonia and Macrozoobenthos were realised in collaboration with experts of the University of Pavia and of the Zoological Station "Anton
Dohrn" in Naples.

The following cards are also available on the analytical methods adopted in the ongoing Monitoring Program, for the analysis of the physical-chemical parameters and concentration of chemical pollutants in water, sediment, Biot and analytical Methods for waters realised by former APAT.

IThe contents of the methodological cards above available are also applicable to the Community legislation being implemented, such as Directive 2000/60/EC.

2) Technical reports concerning the criteria for establishing a coastal typology in relation to Directive 2000/60/EC

3) Operational tools for the classification of the ecological status of coastal and transitional waters,in relation to Directive 2000/60/EC
IThe results of the research contracts with the University of Pavia, Department of Ecology, and with the Zoological Station "A. Dohrn" of Naples, the Laboratory of Ecology of Benthos, for the development of appropriate methodological protocols for the classification of the Italian coastal waters through the Angiosperms (Posidonia oceanica) and benthic Macroinvertebrates are shown in the attached Report.
These results are reported in a single document integrating both the contracts referring to years 2005-2006 and 2007-2008. The document sets out the path for the Mediterranean intercalibration and the activities undertaken for the application of methodologies developed for the Italian coastal waters.

As part of the scientific and technical support to the Ministry of the Environment for the implementation of Directive 2000/60/EC and for the preparation of Decrees, Ispra has defined the technical proposal for an ecological classification system for marine-coastal transition waters, which falls within the second phase of the intercalibration. For the element of biological quality Macrophytes (transitional waters) is available Guidline for a proper application of the Macrophyte Quality Index (MaQI), prepared by Professor Adrian Sfriso (University of Venice), author of the index, in collaboration with ISPRA.

4) Technical specifications for the application of teh in force regulations on transition systems
