European Negotiation Processes
Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe
– MCPFE
This is a negotiation process made up of a series of political
conferences and connected follow-up activities that involve 40
European States. The aim is to jointly deal with the risks and
opportunities arising from forestry management. In
collaboration with the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry
Policies APAT supplies technical support for negotiation related
tasks and supports the implementation of policies at a national
level.
Environment for Europe Ministerial Conferences
The “Environment for Europe” process is made up of
a series of Pan-European conferences which were kicked off by the
Dobris Conference (Czechoslovakia 1991). Thirty four European
countries, the United States, Brazil, Japan, the European
Commission and various United Nations Organisations and non
governmental organisations have so far taken part. Each Conference
is set up and organised by a Working Group of Senior Officials
nominated by UNECE's Commission for Environmental Policies as per
the guidelines issued by the previous Ministerial Conference.
The Third report on the Pan-European State of the Environment,
care of AEA, and known as the Kiev Report, was presented during the
Kiev Conference in May 2003.
As partner of the European Topic Centre on Waste and Material
Flows APAT took part in the working group that helped write the
"Waste Production and Management" chapter.
APAT has also provided the data requested by AEA on the
various topics discussed in the publication via the National
Reference Centres of the EIONET (European Environment Information
and Observation Network), coordinated by the National Focal
Point.
