Relationships with other Organisations, Associations and International and Foreign Bodies

This section briefly describes the main relationships between APAT and what used to be DSTN (now part of APAT), and organisations, bodies, associations and international networks.

So as to be consistent with the classification used previously this section is divided into Global International Organisations, Regional International Organisations and Foreign Organisations and Bodies.

Global International Organisations 


GDIN - Global Disaster Information Network. GDIN is an international independent network for the exchange of information related to disasters and the management of emergencies affecting associations, organisations, private bodies and experts from all sectors. APAT worked with the Programme Committee for the organisation of the Conference that was held in Rome in 2002.

International Regional Organisations


EUROGEOSURVEYS - The Association of the Geological Surveys of the European Union
APAT provided the Vice President for the Executive Committee for 2003. In 2002 it provided the President for the General Meeting of Service Directors held in Espoo in Finland and for the Executive Committee held in Brussels. A newsletter was also published with the contribution of Eurogeosurveys’ General Secretariat which was sent to the Geological Service Centres of member states.

INTERNATIONAL HYDROGEOLOGICAL MAP OF EUROPE 1 : 1 500 000 (IHME 1500), is a European project which looks at a series of generic hydrogeological maps that cover the whole of Europe..
APAT is part of the project’s Working Group, and it is financed by the German Government via the BGR (Bundesanstalt fur Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe - Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources), which coordinates the group, and by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).

ENTRAP, European Network of Testing Facilities for the Quality Checking of Radioactive Waste Packages. This is a non-profit organisation which provides a forum for the exchange of information on quality control of the systems used to isolate radioactive waste.

OME , Observatoire Méditerranéen pour l’Énergie. Mediterranean Energy Observation Association There is a constant exchange of information between APAT and OME. OME was founded in 1988 and it promotes cooperation and collaboration between the main companies operating in the energy sector in the Mediterranean.

EUMETSAT, is an intergovernmental organisation created by an international convention involving 18 European countries (including Italy). This is a global weather observation system for weather forecasting and the observation of evolving dangerous weather conditions. The former National Hydrographical Service which is now part of APAT has presided over the working group responsible for the Italian candidacy to host the H-SAF (Satellite Application Facility) Development Centre on Operative Hydrology and Water Management at EUMETSAT.

ATC - Applied Technology Council.This is a non-profit organisation founded thanks to the efforts of the Structural Engineers Association of California. APAT is working with ATC on the research into Earthquake Emergency Response Planning in Hospitals.
Boustead Consulting ltd., Great Britain. This consultancy firm is one of APAT’s partners in the LCA (Life-Cycle Assessment)project.

ECOBILAN, Nanterre, France. This consultancy firm in the environmental field is one of APAT’s partners in the LCA project.

Högskolan Dalarna University, Falun - Sweden. This is a University Research Centre and is one of APAT’s partners in the project financed by the CRAFT programme (5th Framework Programme RDT).

 

 


VITUKI (Vízgazdálkodási Tudományos Kutató Rt.)
This Bulgarian Institute studies the characteristics of river hydrology. APAT is taking part in a bilateral cooperation programme with this Institute. Some of the river Tiber’s basin observation centres have been included. Data for the last few decades has been analysed based on set criteria with a view to compare the data with analogous data for Hungarian basins. APAT also takes part in the Danube River Commission; all countries within the Danube region are part of this commission.
