INTERREG IIC (Western Mediterranean and Latin Alps)

APAT participated in certain projects relating to the Community programme INTERREG IIC (Western Mediterranean and Latin Alps), such as:
  • “Regional Organisation and Combating Drought”, the prototype for a bulletin on drought monitoring prepared by the DSTN National Hydrographic and Marigraphic Service, now APAT, and in terms of meteorological aspects by the Physics Department of Rome’s La Sapienza University;
  • Methodological comparison project (Tuscany, Sicily, Calabria, ANPA; Catalonia, France PACA).

INTERREG IIIB (Transnational Cooperation)

APAT has continued to participate with its own representatives in the national Committees, coordinated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, that operate programmes of interest to Italy as part of the INTERREB IIIB measures – E.U. Structural funds programming, 2000-2006, or MEDOCC, CADSES, SPAZIO ALPINO and ARCHIMED. This activity led to the approval of the following projects, in which the former DSTN – National Hydrographic and Marigraphic Service, now APAT, is a partner:
  • HYDROPTIMET - “Optimisation of hydrometeorological forecasting instruments”, headed by the Piemonte ARPA, for the western Mediterranean area;
  • SEDEMED - "Sécheresse et désertification dans le Bassin Méditerranéen”, headed by the Sicilian Region, Western Mediterranean area, for managing water resources at the corporate and basin scale and for planning the use of water resources in relation to current weather trends, future climate scenarios, and the effects of climate variability on hydrometeorological systems in the Mediterranean area;
  • HYDROADRIA, for the Adriatic-Danube area and NETWET2, CADSES area.
APAT is also a partner in the following other projects:
  • AQUAMED, a project deriving from the preceding “Mediwater - Mediterranean Water Quality” project, for the definition of bodies of water of reference in the Mediterranean area for implementation of the Framework Directoive 2000/60/EC; this is headed by the Tuscany ARPA and APAT coordinates studies on the pilot basins selected by the various regions;
  • DESERTNET – Monitoring and combating desertification in the Mediterranean Europe region, headed by the DRU – Desertification Research Unit of the University of Sasari; APAT is responsible for preparing the necessary indicators, monitoring pilot measures and disseminating the results for the entire project.
