International Symposium
Policies for environment and territory protection can
influence many health determinants. Health protection and promotion
is an essential mandate of many environmental laws, regulations and
sustainable development strategies as well; its implementation in
ordinary practice, consistent with new processes and goals
environmental policies and health-related being settled at European
and paneuropean level, requires a strong organizational and
capacity building efforts for policy makers and operators,
specially for health determinants management of strategic sectors
like energy, transport and urban environment.
The Symposium, organized by APAT - the italian EPA - and
hosted in Venice by ARPAV- the Environmental Agency of Veneto
Region, aims to focus on current major challenges for
Environmental Policies on implementing the task of improving health
protection and health promotion also in order to accomplish
environment and health EU priorities and strategic goals.
The Symposium on the 24th will host the international
session were policies and
key issues will be addressed in order to highlight the role and the
task of environmental policies in the environment and health
governance on the whole, among them those advocate by institutional
policies1 like impact assessment, the implementation of an
environmental information more representative of exposure, the
integration of costs of health impacts in cost benefit analysis,
the development of environmental and health indicators and
information system for monitoring policy effectiveness and for a
more consistent public information and communication.
On the 25th a half day session will host a national
seminar where health and environment bodies
representatives will have a round-table on national implementation
of current tasks of health protection and health promotion in
environmental policies.
