Geological Map of Italy at 1:100.000 scale

NAVIGATION INSTRUCTIONS

In order to access the Geological Map of Italy at 1:100.000 scale, the user can choose between two different paths. The first one consists of clicking directly on the map of the overall Italian territory to zoom on specific areas; the second consists of making a research through 'search options', such as either the sheet name or number, or that of one of the municipalities included into the sheet. The map of the overall Italian territory is subdivided into three main areas (northern, central and southern Italy). It is possible to click and zoom any of them to access also the sheet number. This way it is also possible to open the selected sheet, inclusive of its legend.

The visualisation mask allows to identify basically two sections: this way it is possible to use the available commands to simultaneously access two parts of the sheet. This mode is helpful if, for instance, it is needed to confront the map with its legend, or the geological section, if present, with the section profile. At the top-left a red square helps in navigating through the sheet, allowing to know the sheet portion currently visualised. At the sides of the sheet are visible the numbers of the four bordering maps, which can be directly visualised with a mouse click. The commands at the bottom-centre of the sheet allow to perform simple operations.

The grey triangle can be moved with the mouse towards either left or right allowing the user to quickly zoom in (right) or out (left). The same effect can be obtained using the "+" e "-" key. It is important to bear in mind that the zoom command operates for generic areas: by using the top-left navigator it is possible to select specific areas of interest.

The four arrows, instead, allow to shift the window towards the four directions. The last key corresponds to a generic zooming command allowing to go anytime back to the overall view of the map and the bordering sheets, for further visualisations.
