Geological Map of Italy at 1:100.000 scale

The survey works to produce the 1:100.000 scale map of the whole national territory, constituted by 277 sheets, began in 1877 and were completed in 1976.
The geological sheets at 1:100.000 scale - currently still being printed following the realisation of the cartographic covering of the whole national territory - and the relative legend are available in this section, in flash format.
The Geological Sheets are for sale at the "Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato" (the official publication body of the Italian Government), in Rome, and at credited bookshops. Moreover they can be accessed at the APAT Library.

Select geographic area

In order to access the Geological Map of Italy at 1:100.000 scale, the user can choose between two different paths. The first one consists of clicking directly on the map of the overall Italian territory to zoom on specific areas; the second consists of making a research through ‘search options’, such as either the sheet name or number, or that of one of the municipalities included into the sheet. The map of the overall Italian territory is subdivided into three main areas (northern, central and southern Italy). It is possible to click and zoom any of them to access also the sheet number. This way it is also possible to open the selected sheet, inclusive of its legend
